Intent is, first and foremost, an intention.

Intention is much more than a thought, a temptation, or a desire, because it is the decision to achieve something. Intent is that strong feeling that makes you capable of anything. It is a feeling, but it is also a decision reinforced by the mind: I define it as a mental feeling. Within the teachings published in the Steps, you will often find the term intent, especially during the guided techniques. The purpose of non-thinking is to enable you to achieve your goals without having to think about them in words, by taking actions driven directly by your intent. Intent is a feeling that is often stifled by a thousand thoughts; in fact, our desires often fail in the end. By learning to use intent, without being stifled by thoughts and internal masks, you can achieve what you aim for without stumbling into traps and obstacles.

To understand what intent is, you need experience, and to learn how to use it, you need practice. While practicing the various techniques learned in A.C.D., you will often come across terms such as: "Meditate with the intent to relax"; or "Breathe with the intent to absorb prana"; these are just some of the most classic examples. In this case, it means that while you are meditating, you must have a strong desire to relax, but you must not stop at desire: it must become a decision. Similarly, when you breathe, do not let the breath go by itself, but follow it, paying attention to it and making it conscious, with the decision that while you breathe you must also absorb prana. To learn what intent is, we use visualization so that you can understand what it is and how to create this strong intention. For example: "Visualize creating a bubble around you, with the intent that it protects you"; or "Visualize the prana around you, with the intent that it strengthens your aura"; in these cases you are using visualization to reinforce the feeling within you, which is the key to achieving it. It is easy to say that you know how to use intent, because you think it is a simple thought such as "I want it"; in reality, it is much more complex to understand and use. Intent is the key to everything, and if you knew how to use it divinely, you wouldn't have a messed-up life; you would already know how to do everything, including how to use all your psychic abilities. You start with the first level of intent, but little by little you will learn higher and higher stages until you are able to practice perfectly—and therefore achieve real results—without having to think about words or images. However, don't be in a hurry to abandon visualization. Instead, be in a hurry to learn how to exploit your psychic abilities at the highest levels, because it will be more interesting than you can imagine. Through visualization exercises, you learn how to use intent, which is why they are so important. Intent can be very powerful, so much so that it is the key to achieving concrete results in a short time. It all depends on how strong it is, and let's be clear, no one is born with strong intent. We may say that we have strong intent, that we have already trained it, that we have been using it all our lives, but the truth is that intent is a very complex technique and can only be achieved with the right practices. Those who already believe they have strong intent simply do not want to hear its definition and have no interest in increasing their abilities.

Intent is a much deeper feeling that can bring events to fruition. When you want something, most of the time it remains just a desire; intent, on the other hand, is what makes it happen, which is why it needs to be trained and made more powerful. Intent is a skill that cannot be managed voluntarily because, like all other faculties, it needs to be trained. Until then, intent sometimes works miracles and most of the time it is not there because you do not know how to use it. For now, you may not understand what it is, confusing it with the simple desire to do something, but with time you will understand that intent is something much greater: it is what can make you capable of anything.

To train it, you need to commit to every single meditation and every single technique, deciding to have a stronger feeling while performing them, rather than doing them without paying attention or feeling anything. An example is meditation: while meditating, commit to having that feeling of peace, desire to have peace for the entire duration of the session. By training yourself to decide to have a strong feeling during a technique, you will increase the power of your intent; if, on the other hand, you sit down without wanting to practice well, you will obviously practice poorly. Intent is a higher level than feeling because it is an input that moves energy. When you practice psychic protection, the feeling and desire to feel protected and to strengthen your bubble increase your intention to protect yourself. However, intention needs to be stimulated because it does not grow easily, let alone evolve over the years. Whether you are 20 or 60, your intention may be very low because it depends on whether you have ever trained it with psychic techniques. So through visualization, you train your feeling, for example by wishing to draw in prana. Without visualization, you will not be able to train your feeling, and it will remain at the same level as when you started on this path. Instead, during this journey, you must commit to evolving, increasing your perceptions. This is why visualization is important: because it makes you experience a level of feeling called emotion. Emotion should not be associated only with love, because an emotion can be positive or negative, it can be the shyness of doing something or talking to someone, as it can be the happiness of doing something or the terror of a future event that is not yet certain. Emotion should not be associated only with a positive or negative event, because it is the evolution of feeling, it is that moment when you feel a strong sensation for something that is happening or that you think or fear will happen.

We are used to thinking of feelings as something that, in reality, does not make our hearts beat so fast. This is because we are used to not feeling anything unless something strong happens, but apart from that, we live our lives in a fairly apathetic emotional state. For example, when we fall in love with someone and experience things with them for the first time, we feel a strong emotion that makes our hearts beat faster every day just thinking about them. Then, over the years, the feeling subsides and when we think of them, our hearts don't race; we no longer feel a strong emotion. We only remember feeling something for them when we fear that they are about to leave us, that they are cheating on us, or that something bad has happened to them on their way home. At that point, we remember that we have a feeling inside our chest, but unless we fear something bad, we forget what we feel. In part, this is caused by the daily life we are subjected to: work that steals all our hours and all our strength, that steals our lives every day, makes us forget that we are people who feel emotions and not just work machines. In part, however, it is still our fault, because we should decide to remember and be aware of our feelings every day; instead, we abandon ourselves to our daily masks and forget what really matters to us. Clearly, I am not just talking about love for other people, but also for our goals that would make us feel fulfilled.

So feeling something means perceiving that sensation inside your chest that makes you feel a certain way, such as love making you feel very happy or fear making you feel powerless and weak. So it has nothing to do with the daily apathy in which we do everything without feeling anything. Emotion is a higher stage than feeling because it makes you feel an internal electric shock, it makes you feel excited about something positive that is happening or that you would like to happen, or it makes you feel terrified and out of your mind because of the fear that something is making you feel. So emotion lasts less, a few minutes or a few hours, and you feel it when something very strong is happening that has stimulated your senses. Intent, on the other hand, lasts only a few seconds.

All this is because we have always been accustomed to enduring our feelings and emotions rather than learning to control them and use them to our advantage. This does not mean that we have to decide who to fall in love with, or that love will no longer be spontaneous, or anything like that. We are not here to eliminate the good things in life, but rather to expand them and detach the negative aspects that are often associated with them. A typical example is believing that falling in love means feeling love and hate for the same person; instead, you can decide to fall in love and take only the positive aspects, unlike people who experience all feelings as if they were a single package.

When you train your spiritual gifts, you go far beyond the love and hate you may feel for a person, you go far beyond deciding to love only, you go beyond levels that those who do not practice will never even understand in theory. Deciding to feel feelings and emotions and knowing how to control them means being able to use them for your own good—and that of others—without having to suffer the negative aspects. For example, by deciding to remind yourself more often who you love and why, and not just when something bad happens; at the same time, you can decide not to suffer the sadness and fear of a negative future because you choose to detach yourself from these thoughts and feelings, stopping them before they really hurt you. But that's not all. By remaining aware of your feelings and emotions, you learn to motivate yourself and decide to feel inspired to continue your projects or move forward with what makes you feel fulfilled, rather than putting it aside due to the usual emotional apathy. Real feelings, when well trained, allow you to move forward and avoid falling into the traps and obstacles of life. By real feelings, I mean feelings that are trained and constantly updated, remaining conscious every day. Otherwise, they are simply the feelings that everyone experiences, the ones that are forgotten and only appear when we feel in danger. This is where emotion comes from, which usually only arises in special events or during sudden difficult, problematic, or frightening moments, such as the emotion you feel before an exam. Emotion is that feeling that makes you feel excited, that makes your heart beat fast for something good or bad that is happening.

Intent is different again. Intent is stronger than emotion and desire combined; it is like a momentary desire which, when combined with a strong emotion, has the power to create. When you feel intent, you don't notice it because it feels like a normal emotion, yet unconsciously its power rises to its peak for a few seconds and, in those seconds, it creates. Sometimes it creates positive events, other times very negative ones, depending on your state of mind. Since you have no control over intent, it is not you—not yet—who decides when it should happen and what it should do, so it happens randomly, most of the time, as with all other mental faculties. Sometimes you have had a spontaneous premonition, telepathy, or an out-of-body experience, yet you did not know how to control them because without training you cannot decide when they should happen and how they should go: only if you train can you learn to take control of them and make them happen when and how you say. Intent is the same thing. Having a strong conscious intention all the time will help you improve your intent. Intent is what makes any technique powerful, and for now it may only last a few seconds, but it will be your duty to learn, through practice, to make it more lasting and less fleeting. What you need to evolve your abilities and achieve your plans are two fundamental elements: energy and intent. If you have only intent but no energy, it means you have the ability to create but you don't have the right equipment to do it, so you will fail. If you have energy but no intent, it means you have all the equipment you need but you have no idea how to use it, so you will fail. If you have energy and intent, you have everything.

Clearly, psychic abilities must be added to these two points, which, like everything else, must be trained: just as energy must be continually replenished—because we are not born with an infinite supply—and intent must be trained by practicing various techniques, so too must psychic faculties be continually trained so that their abilities do not diminish but remain stable and, better yet, increase in level. So for now, you can learn the theory about intent, knowing that it is like a feeling, a stronger and more determined emotion, but with time you will understand in practice and through experience how important it is for your fulfillment in any field. Intent is a great power, because when you learn to use it really well, in a few seconds you will achieve results that now, when you don't know how to use it, would take you weeks of practice, if you're lucky. Clearly, if you want to achieve these results, you need to practice all the techniques a lot, so that your intent improves through them, and they improve through it, so that everything goes hand in hand. Without training, nothing can work and produce good results. Intent is a decision, but a much more focused and stronger one: you can decide to go somewhere or do something, but you don't need psychic abilities to go there or do that task. Intent is a decision that can psychically change the course of your future in an instant.

Intent is not just a desire or even an expectation, because these have limits. Well-developed intent will enable you to practice the techniques and achieve immediate, real effects, whereas without strong intent, you will have to practice the techniques for longer until you achieve the results, which may require hours of practice, or even weeks, depending on the goal you want to achieve. Intent is such a strong decision that it imprints itself against the will of the Matrix and fulfills your desire-feeling without following any rules; all this only if it is really strong. For the moment, you have a very weak intent, and that is why you are here: to train yourself until it becomes strong. Expecting this to become strong without putting in the effort is tantamount to deluding yourself. Most older people do not have strong intent, which means that it will not come with age, but with practice and interest in developing it. You have probably noticed that sometimes some meditations go better than others, or that even though you have practiced the same technique in the same way, sometimes you get immediate results and other times you have had to persevere more. This depends on how strong your intention was during meditation or practice: the sessions in which your intention was strongest are the ones that gave you the best results. Therefore, intention must be trained continuously during the techniques you perform, so that it becomes stronger and more effective. All techniques depend on each other; all the pieces fit together and not one can be missing for everything to work perfectly. To improve your intent, start practicing with a different mindset: practice each session with the desire to make it a really good meditation, with a strong and continuous desire for the whole session to go well, imprinting the feeling that you can benefit from each session. Remove your expectations of results and ask for benefits instead. In this way, day after day, year after year, you will increase your intent and enable it to save you time and achieve real results that many other people would never have achieved. This is the meaning of intent, but only with experience will you understand how useful it can be to know how to make it work.
